First Fruits Farm
First Fruits Farm
One of the most “hands-on” local missions that we do at Hereford UMC is partner with First Fruits Farm (firstfruitsfarm.org). Located in Freeland, Maryland, just several miles north of our campus, First Fruits Farm, Inc. is a nonprofit ministry dedicated to growing fresh vegetables and fruit to help feed hungry people in our community. Since 2004, on over 100 acres of beautiful farmland and with help of hundreds of volunteers, First Fruits Farm has provided over 6 million pounds of fresh produce to our brothers and sisters in need. In addition to produce, the farm also provides over 60 dozen eggs per week as well as beef to various shelters and food banks.
In 2013, First Fruits Farm was able to grow, harvest and give away nearly 1.4 million pounds of healthy food for people in need. Volunteers from Hereford United Methodist Church and many other churches, Girl Scouts, Boy Scouts, youth groups, YMCA, senior citizens, families from the community, corporate volunteer groups and others enjoy working side by side on the farm. Those receiving fresh produce include:
